Clear Cut Pictures has completed full post production and graphics on BBC History's latest drama documentary offering, The Somme. Working alongside the director Detlef Siebert, were Danny Finn (dubbing mixer and editor completed on ProTools) and Mike Curd (online & grade on Avid Symphony).
Paul Chandler was the Effects Supervisor for this graphics project, which was completed on a range of kit:
Apple Shake was used by Sarah Juniper for rotoscoping, with the task of working with soldiers wearing khaki against grass, trees and hedges with smoke and explosions going off.
Adobe After Effects and Discreet Combustion was used by Ian Humphrey to composite the additional soldiers, smoke and explosions together. Challenges included creating and mixing physical and visual effects together whilst making it look seamless.
Alias-AutoDesk Maya and Photoshop was used by Paul Chandler to convert historical maps into 3D landscape maps, bringing history to life whilst maintaining accuracy.
